Thanh Chuong was born in 1949. He began painting at the age of seven and enrolled in the Hanoi Fine Arts College in 1960. During the war he served as an engineer, and when it ended, he began his career as an illustrator for the Literature and Art Weekly Magazine.
His current works are primarily lacquer and pigment on wood although he continues to produce some oil on canvas and gouache on cheesecloth works. Many of his bright colored cubist works are inspired by village life and emotions and a number of his paintings have been printed as UNICEF cards and UN stamps.
Thanh Chuong has participated in many solo and group exhibitions, both in Vietnam and abroad and his works are widely collected throughout the world.
