Autumn Flowers
Please join us on Friday, November 16 between 6pm - 9pm for the opening of "Autumn Flowers" with Nguyen Thanh Binh. The exhibition is being held at the gallery and an RSVP for the opening is requested. The show continues from November 19 - December 5 by appointment.
Nguyen Thanh Binh derives much of his inspiration for his paintings from Japanese Haiku poetry where a minimal number of words portray great meaning. Many people look at Binh’s paintings and see a kind of poetic simplicity and on the surface they may be correct. However, Binh has endured significant trials of both mind and body and his art represents a place of refuge which is deeply influenced by his experiences. “I use oils and canvas originated in the west and combine them with my eastern eyes, hands and mind to create my paintings. My pieces may appear to be simple but my mind is brimming with memories, feelings and passion and each of them quietly resonates from my soul."
Nguyen Thanh Binh is world renowned and his name and works are recognized as some finest in contemporary Vietnamese art. "Autumn Flowers" will feature 40 works painted by Binh, including 20 which will be unveiled for the first time at the opening. Please join us for what promises to be a memorable opening event with the artist.
Nguyen Thanh Binh joined us for the opening of "A Celebration of Life and Love" on April 22, 2011 at the Tokyo American Club. The exhibition, planned long before the March 11 earthquake and Tsunami, was dedicated to supporting relief efforts for the survivors and raised approximately 3,000,000 yen. Nguyen Thanh Binh and Dao Hai Phong were featured in "A Peaceful Place" exhibition which opened in Tokyo on November 21, 2009. Room to Read, the beneficiary of this exhibition, received 10,000 US dollars from Toriizaka Art as a result of the event. Binh's work was also featured at a solo exhibition entitled "Beautiful Women" at The Oakwood Premier at Tokyo Midtown (show opened April 11, 2010).
