Nguyen Thanh Binh derives much of his inspiration for his paintings from Japanese Haiku poetry where a minimal number of words portray great meaning. Many people look at Binh’s paintings and see a kind of poetic simplicity and on the surface they may be correct. However, Binh has endured significant trials of both mind and body and his art represents a place of refuge which is deeply influenced by his experiences. “I use oils and canvas originated in the west and combine them with my eastern eyes, hands and mind to create my paintings. My pieces may appear to be simple but my mind is brimming with memories, feelings and passion and each of them quietly resonates from my soul."
Nguyen Thanh Binh is world renowned and his name and works are recognized as some finest in contemporary Vietnamese art. He has exhibited widely in Vietnam and abroad. All works featured by Toriizaka Art are chosen directly from him and represent his absolute best.
Nguyen Thanh Binh and Dao Hai Phong were featured in "A Peaceful Place" exhibition which opened in Tokyo on November 21, 2009. Room to Read, the beneficiary of this exhibition, received 10,000 US dollars from Toriizaka Art and looks forward to continuing their work of building schools and libraries in Vietnam with the proceeds from the event.
