Karyn Young was born in Montreal, Canada and graduated from Goddard College in 1976. After moving to Kyoto in the early 1980’s, she studied a variety of traditional Japanese arts including calligraphy, papermaking, bingata stencil printing and ikebana (flower arrangement). Despite having returned to California, Young’s current mixed media work combines traditional motifs with modern techniques and is reflective of the 18 years she spent living in Japan. Karyn’s works have been exhibited throughout Japan and in the United States and Canada and are held in the private collections of Hewlett Packard, the Suntory Company, the British Museum in London, Proctor & Gamble and in the Daichi Kyogo Bank.

Ted Colyer was born in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1947. Upon graduating from Mt. Allison University in Fine Art, he went to Japan to further his studies in traditional Japanese woodblock techniques. In 1975 he began his professional career as a painter and printmaker and remained in Japan for 17 years. In 1988 he returned to Canada and currently resides in Vancouver, B.C. Colyer's exhibition history spans three decades and multiple continents. His paintings and prints grace the walls of numerous museums, galleries, corporate collections and private investors. Private collectors of Colyer’s art include the Nikkei Heritage Center (Vancouver), Acadia University (50 woodblocks), Prince and Princess Takamado, Davis & Co. (Vancouver and Tokyo); Mitsubishi Bank (Toronto), the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, etc.
