Diane Rakocy
Diane was raised in a small mid-western town in the United States and started traveling abroad at the age of fourteen. She has lived in Asia, Africa and Europe and her travels, coupled with her deep sense of spirituality, have given her insight into the lives and beliefs of many different cultures. We enjoyed welcoming Diane for her first Tokyo exhibition this year. Thanks to everyone who joined us for the wine and cheese opening on Friday, October 9th.
Like all artists, Diane's paintings reflect where she's been both literally and figuratively. She is best known for her unique ability to combine color and light to create vibrant, luminous figurative paintings. While traveling in Asia, Diane was fascinated by the ancient Buddha statues carved from stone. Many of them were broken and chipped but still wore clear expressions on their faces. Diane's paintings with bright acrylic paint and rich textures, seem to bring new life to the faces of the ancient carvings.
Diane received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and two Masters degrees (Business and Education) from Northwestern University. She has studied watercolors under Jim Wisnowski and mandala art under Judith Cornell and has taught at the North Shore Art League Winnetka, IL. Diane currently lives in Tokyo and is the mother of three teenagers.
