I enjoyed meeting with Khuong (over a strong cup of Vietnamese coffee) to discuss some of his latest works. He likes working on a grand scale as well as on his smaller (80x80) pieces that we typically feature in Tokyo.

Tran Dinh Khuong

Tran Dinh Khuong was born in 1972 and graduated from the Hanoi Fine Arts College in 1993. He is a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and received the "Young Artist of Hanoi" award in 2001 and awards from the Vietnam Fine Art Association in 2000.

His works have been exhibited in Vietnam, Hong Kong, France and Japan and are widely held in private collections. Khoung's lacquer paintings include intricate and detailed designs. Materials used include egg shell, copper, gold and silver leaf and mother of pearl.

His works are largely influenced by his children and the life he shares with them. His wife, Doan Thuy Hanh, is also an accomplished lacquer artist.
